About Me
I am Peter Twele, a researcher, writer, and teacher with my primary focus on the Middle East.
I first headed to the Middle East 40 years ago. During the eleven years that I lived there, my main goal was to mix with the local people of the countries I visited. I learned to appreciate the way they live, travel the way they travel, eat the way they eat, and most importantly show them respect.
What usually opened doors the widest for me was the serious effort I put into learning to read, write and speak Arabic ... a language with many complexities and varieties ... a language I have learned to love. As Nelson Mandela so aptly stated, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."
Although I currently reside in Canada, I continue with my Middle East focus, regularly working with people from that region, and often travelling there as well.
In addition, I have authored several books ... Rubbing Shoulders in Yemen (2012), Iraq on Their Doorstep (2014), and Guilty by Association (2021). Click on the "Middle East Books" tab to learn more about the content of each book.
